Alt+Delete

Un-segmentation: restoring the source text only. This would NOT delete the translation unit(s) from the Translation Memory. It has two cases/functions:

1- One segment open: to un-segment it and restore its source text only.

2- No segment open: to un-segment the whole text and restore the source text only.

Alt+Down

1- To start translation. 2- To move to the next segment.

Alt+End

To end the translation session.

Alt+F11

To force adding the current translation to the TM even if it includes an exact match. By default (without using this shortcut), the new translation should overwrite the old one. The shortcut allows multiple translations once; if you rather need to allow multiple translation in general, you can adjust the relevant settings at TM Rules.

Alt+F12

To copy and paste some selected word(s) from any Word document (e.g. the current document or the Concordance/Reference Search results document) into the target cell of the currently open segment.

Alt+Home

To resume translation from the last segment you closed. (You do not need to place the cursor on it.)

Alt+Insert or Alt+S

To copy the source text into the target cell. (= 2nd Wordfast toolbar button, Copy Source)

Alt+PageDown

To expand the segment into the next end-of segment-punctuation mark (= 3rd Wordfast toolbar button, Expand Segment)

Alt+PageUp

To shrink the segment into the previous end-of segment-punctuation mark (= 4th Wordfast toolbar button, Shrink Segment)

Alt+Right/Left

To move between other available matches, if any. Remember that whenever there is more than one match, the matching percentage appears in bold blue. While using the shortcut, the status bar shows the number of available matches.

Alt+Up

To move to the previous segment.

Ctrl+Alt+B

To change the background colour of the source and target cells into black. This is useful if the colour of the text is very pale. To restore the original colours of the cells, press the shortcut again.

Ctrl+Alt+Backspace

Use it while a segment is open to delete the current translation unit from the translation memory. This is useful if you have stored a translation unit in the TM and found out that you do not need to store it, or if you have more than one match for the current segment and want to delete one of them from the TM without opening the Data Editor.

Ctrl+Alt+C

Concordance Search: to search for some word(s) in TMs.

Ctrl+Alt+Down

To insert the equivalent of the selected term into the target cell.

Ctrl+Alt+Enter

Use it while a term is selected (with a red frame) to open the Data Editor.

Ctrl+Alt+G

To search for a term in the glossary.

Ctrl+Alt+G+G

To display other equivalents in a new window (Glossary Companion).

Ctrl+Alt+Insert

To use the format of the source text in the target cell. Although this is the default behaviour, the shortcut can be useful in very special cases, e.g. if you copy a piece of text with different format into the target cell.

Ctrl+Alt+M

To preview the translation unit stored in the TM. This is useful especially for fuzzy matches; it highlights the differences between the current segment and the one in the TM.

Ctrl+Alt+M+M

To display other TM matches in a new window (TM Companion).

Ctrl+Alt+N

Reference Search: to search for some word(s) in the files of some selected folder(s).

Ctrl+Alt+P

To display a "concise" report on the current Wordfast settings. Click "OK" to have a "detailed" report in Word document that you can save. This is useful for troubleshooting and consulting. In many cases, it is better to attach this report with the message describing your problem.

Ctrl+Alt+Q+Q

Quality Check Companion

Ctrl+Alt+Right

To select the highlighted term.

Ctrl+Alt+T

1- To add a term to an active glossary. 2- To add an abbreviation to the abbreviation list.

Ctrl+Alt+Up

- To select words of the source text one by one to deal with them as placeables, inserting them into the target cell using Ctrl+Alt+Down or Tab. Use the same shortcut to disable this function.

- To toggle the case of the term or placeable just inserted in the target cell. To use it, hold both "Ctrl+Alt" and then press the "Up Arrow" twice. It is just like Shift+F3, but there is no need to select the word.

Ctrl+Alt+X

To delete the whole content of the current target cell safely without spoiling delimiters.

Ctrl+Comma+Comma

Ctrl+,+, Use this shortcut while no segment is open to display the target text only; it hides the hidden text. To re-display the source text, press the shortcut again or use the fifth right button on Wordfast Toolbar.

Using this shortcut is useful for revising the translation. However, do not edit the translation while the source text is hidden; this can spoil the segment.

F10

To mark the current segment as "provisional", adding a coloured mark to it; to move to the next segment without storing the current one into the Translation Memory.

For example, you may want refer to some resources before approving the (temporary) segment. To edit a provisional segment, place the cursor on it, press Alt+Down, modify the target text, and press Alt+Down again to approve and store it into the TM.

F11

To force Wordfast to write the current TU into the TM regardless of existing, similar segments. Use it instead of Alt+Down or Alt+End for this purpose. So, now you have more than one exact match for this segment. Remember that you can do that for every segment by adjusting the relevant option at TM Rules, if needed. segments with multiple matches are distinguished by blue matching rate, and you have move between matches using Alt+Right/Left.

Shift+Alt+Down

Force Segmentation: Select a part of the text and press this shortcut to force Wordfast to add the selected text into a new segment even if it does not end with one of the defined end-of-segment-punctuation (ESP) marks.

Shift+Alt+End

To end the translation without adding the current segment into the Translation Memory. (On the other hand, Alt+End adds the last translation unit into the TM).

Shift+Alt+Insert

To insert the translation of the current segment from the TM. This is useful in special cases such as:

- cancelling modification made to a match retrieved from the TM (before accepting it).

- cancelling modification made to the translation while the segment is closed. Note that if you open such segment, a red frame surrounds it; this is to warn you that the translation in the file is different from that in the TM.

- using the translation from a TU displayed for reference while the option "When no match is found, search TM for expressions" is activated.

Shift+Ctrl+PageDown

To translate a block of exact (100%) matches. (= 5th left Wordfast toolbar button, Auto-translate while 100% match)

Tab

Another way to insert a term, placeable or any word through typing its first letter and then pressing the "Tab" button.
