To perform a search operation:
- Verify that the date, time, and time zone on the system are correct.
- See How to correct your Windows system clock.
- Reboot the computer. If the problem persists, move to the next step.
- Verify that there are no hidden files and folders.
Windows 7:
- Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options
- Click View tab.
- On the View tab, verify that:
- Show hidden files, folders, and drives is selected.
- Hide extensions for known file types is cleared.
- Click Apply and OK.
Windows 10:
- Right-click on the Windows Start button
- Choose Control Panel and open the File Folder Options.
- On the View tab, verify that:
- Show hidden files and folders is selected.
- Hide file extensions for known file types is cleared.
- Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) is cleared.
- Click Yes when prompted.
- Click Apply and OK.
Now Search the computer hard drive for files with future file dates.
Windows 7:
- Open Windows Explorer.
- In the upper right, click in the search box and then click on Date modified.
- Click on today's date and drag well into the future to set the date range for the search. The search will begin automatically.
Windows 10:
- Open Windows Explorer
- In the search bar type todays date and a date far in the future.
- An example is "datemodified:11/10/2016 .. 11/10/2098"
- The search will begin automatically.
