Marking Text as Untranslatable
How to mark text as untranslatable in Wordfast Pro
In Wordfast Pro and Wordfast Anywhere, the untranslatable attribute is applied to any hidden text. To mark pieces of text as hidden in MS Word, select it, go to Font, and check Hidden.
Any hidden text will not be visible in Wordfast Pro or Wordfast Anywhere after importing the file. However, it will remain as is (untranslated) in the target translated document.
Q. I got a Word document including some comments, and the client asked me not to translate comments. How can I exclude the comments from translation without having to remove them from the source document?
A. To format all the comments as Hidden at once, you need to change the Style. Click Styles, and Manage Styles. Select the Comment Text style. Click Modify, and then click Format, Font, and tick the option Hidden. Click OK. Watch this video, illustrating the steps.
Q. I got an RTF file prepared with the style tw4winExternal (meaning I have to leave these parts out). But when I open them with WFP all these parts appear as translatable.
A. TW4win-styles can be used by Wordfast Classic (not Pro). To tell Wordfast Pro to ignore any pieces of text, they should be formatted as Hidden.
So, you can have a copy of your RTF file and apply a Find-Replace operation on the RTF file to replace tw4winExternal style with Hidden.
Find what: More > Format > Style > tw4winExternal
Replace with: More > Format > Font > Hidden (check)
